Brooklyn and Serena ~ Family / Baby Session

If I could specialize solely in shooting newborns, babies and bellies; I would in a heartbeat!  I just love babies!  I know most people can say that without hesitation, but I think I’m quite obsessed with them. (not in a creepy way! hehe)

Moving on…

A week before Xmas, a friend from work came by and asked me if I could fit in a session of her beautiful grand-daughters for her husband Jeff.   Due to the tight timelines, I was quite nervous but agreed to do it!

She had mastered a wonderful plan to get photos done without him knowing, while he was away on a business trip.  The love and dedication for family I witness on a day to day basis is amazing.

They came to my house (studio, hehe) and we spent 3 wonderful hours getting as many shots as we could: changing outfits, changing backdrops, and being entertained by their wonderful 3 year old chatterbox Serena.  I’ve only ever met another 3 year old with such a kind heart, an amazing vocabulary and a strong personality.  Parents be warned, she’ll be a tough teenager and…a heartbreaker.  Poor guys!

Brooklyn, the beautiful 3 month old angel was a ham to work with too, she slept like I’d want all my newborns to sleep; deep and for a long time.  She let me move her into many different positions and smiled on demand.

We finished the whole session with a foot shot, which had been requested by grandma.  This was a hilarious adventure in DIY setups and photography techniques.  Brooklyn ended up peeing all over us, but we got the shot we wanted.

I couldn’t have asked for a more interactive and momentous session with wonderful parents and children! Thank you for allowing me to be part of your memories.

Here are the photos I was able to capture of Ashley and Kyle’s perfect children: Serena and Brooklyn.

I also wanted to give a special thank you to my good friend Jessica for being there and assisting me with this shoot – it was much appreciated!

P.S. Leave some love for this beautiful family below in the comments or join the chat over on the facebook page!

P.P.S. Looking for newborn, baby or child photography of your own angels?  Click here to contact me, and we will start planning your session:)

See you again soon,

Andree

2011 in review + favourite photos!

As I look back on 2011 and look forward to 2012, I am happy with what I’ve accomplished and what is coming.  A lot of things happened in 2011… I bought a house, a new car (within the same week), got married and launched my business.  How could 2012 top that?? Not sure, but I have a feeling it will come close!

As I reflect on my year, one of my most important accomplishments would have to be finding my confidence.  Every day, I have more and more trust in my skills and abilities and it feels really good.

Although I wish I was 100% confident, I hope to still get excited and nervous when I meet a client for the first time, show up for a shoot and deliver my products after a lot of work and dedication.  I love what I do, and I hope it stays that way!

I already have several contracts booked for the new year and am very excited when I get a new lead or an email from an interested person! I am always looking forward to new experiences that come my way.

I hope you hop on for the ride, I will try to keep it as interesting as possible! (…and I promise to post more in the new year!)

Andrée

PS.  Here are some of my favourite 2011 photos!

Featured on TV!

As some of you may know, photography isn’t my only passion.  Since I was a wee little girl (actually that’s not true, I’ve always been quite tall ;)), I’ve been very involved in all things crafty.  When I was 7, my grandmother taught me how to knit, and it was an instant connection.  Although I learnt when I was little, it wasn’t until 3 or so years ago that I really got serious about knitting.  Now, knitting and I have a pretty intense love affair going on.  One that even has my husband wondering, what about me??

When I was asked by my friend JP if I would be interested in being featured on Entrenous on TvRogers (a french community channel here in Ottawa), I was so excited!! I said yes right away and started thinking what I could talk about!  Of course, I wanted to share with the world (or in this case, the french people in Ottawa…and my family, haha), my intense love with the art of knitting.  Too many ideas!  I got help from my knitter friends and we figured out a plan that was short, concise and would get the message of how beautiful it is across.

Let me go back in time a bit to share a story about my dream of becoming the next Martha Stewart.

Imagine me, at 10 years old (Ok, i’m not 10 here but I thought I was really cute! PS.  My bangs were short because apparently I also had a passion for hairstyling…)

On with the story..

When I was 10, I loved to cook with my mom.  Every Friday we would make individual do-them-yourself pizzas and I would be her dedicated sous-chef preparing all the toppings.  We had a fairly large window facing our prep area and at night, we could see our reflections perfectly.  So, mom and I decided to create our own make believe cooking show… which as I recall went on for quite a while.   Mom loved the time we spent together and so did I.  Sometimes, my brother Marc even got involved and I of course, would boss him around.

As the weeks passed and our show continued to be a great success (we thought, hehe), Mom had a great idea: “Let’s tape it and pretend we’re really on a show!”  We got all excited and started planning.  We set up a video camera, and put a special table which was at the exact height that it would be on TV, we prepared our little bowls, our cutting boards, our knives and plates.  We preheated the oven and even decided to make homemade crust with our new breadmaker (which Marc had convinced Mom and Dad to buy on the shopping channel, among other things).  Everything was set and we were ecstatic.

We started taping; started preparing and went for it.  Mom was doing the filming so I got my chance to be the lead chef along with my sous-chefs; Marc and his friend.  I told them what to do, supervised their work and made them laugh.  In that moment, I remember feeling so comfortable and joyful.

To make it even better, we added commercials which we invented on the fly.  At the end of the show, Marc and his friend made orange juice to be served with the pizza (with our juicer, which he also made our parents buy on the shopping channel) and I started to conclude the show.  How did it end?  By me trying to offer my brother up for adoption, mimicking commercials of the children in Africa we often see… haha

When my grandpa saw this video (yes my mom showed our whole family), he was amazed at how outspoken and funny I was.  He raved about it to everyone saying I should send it to CBC and that I would create the first ever TV show hosted by a child. Amazing right?

Today, I would give anything to see that tape again… if only I knew where it lived.

***

Back to present day.  Yesterday was my big star moment!  I got all my props ready and headed to the station to go live on TvRogers!  It was AMAAZZIINNG and everything I always thought it would be:  Nervewracking as hell, exciting, amazing and FUN.

To watch the video (which was taken from my iPhone while watching it last night) click this link! Andree-Lise Photo featured on TV! PS. It’s in French:)

Once I get a real copy, I’ll post that one but for now, a photo of one of my items which was on display yesterday!

PS… For any big time TV producers reading this, I would really like my own show. Thanks!

Unshaven Mavens

The men of our city spend a whole month growing their moustaches for fundraisers like Movember & Moustaches for Kids. It seems as though we should make a stand and do something to support a female cause too!

So, Amie Beausoleil and Malorie Bertrand, two amazing women with a purpose, got to thinking…why can’t women make THEIR men suffer and grow something for a cause?

With this, Unshaven Mavens was born and the rest is hairy.

***

“Unshaven Mavens will grow their underarm hair for the entire month of October, all the while raising funds for Rethink Breast Cancer, a Canadian breast cancer charity that brings bold, relevant awareness to the under-40 crowd. Unshaven Mavens will zero in on the armpit because early breast cancer symptoms can be detected in the underarm area, not just the breast.

The growing season begins at the Clean-Shave Day Kick-Off (October 1st) and for four hair raising weeks thereafter. During the growing season, Mavens and Sponsors (we like to call them “Bosom Buddies”) have the opportunity to meet up at weekly Pit Stops to give each other moral support, enjoy a beverage or two, and compare their progress. Oh did we mention, we take pictures? At the end of four weeks, a Final Red Carpit Bash is held to determine who will hold the title of “Pit Boss” (most funds raised), “Most Pitiful” (least hair growth), “Jolie Pit” (nicest pit), and “Brad Pitt” (most hair growth) and to hand out prizes.

Unshaven Mavens will be a diverse group of women who all share at least two things in common – a desire to make a difference and the ability to not take themselves too seriously.”

I took part in this project and let me tell you, it was fun fun fun!  To prepare for the project, I had the opportunity to go out with the girls and take promo shots for their website.  Here are the photos:)

In its first year, the Unshaven Mavens project raised an amazing $8,142 for Rethink Breast Cancer. WOW! Impressive.

To see photos of the growth which were submitted by the growers click here.  You’ll even get to see yours truly…:)  Here’s a preview of my month’s growth.
